Mount Shasta High School's varsity girls basketball team defeated Weed in overtime in the Bears' Carnival night game Jan. 27, 2012. Both teams went into the game undefeated in the first round of the Shasta Cascade League season.
Dunsmuir High School's varsity boys and girls basketball teams were both winners on the court against Surprise Valley during their 2012 Winter Coronation games Jan. 20. The boys ran away from the Hornets, 68-27. The girls, after a slow start, took control in the second half for a 42-36 win.
