Weed High School’s basketball teams both opened Shasta Cascade League play with victories Tuesday night, Jan. 5, against visiting Trinity.
Three Cougars scored in double figures as the Weed girls won for the first time this season, 42-38.
Sierra Skeen scored 14, including 2 three-pointers and had 9 rebounds.
Nicolette Neel scored 14 with 5 rebounds, and Kera Vogel scored 10 points and had 9 rebounds.
Mindi Chandler had 7 rebounds and 4 steals to go with 2 points.
The Weed boys improved their overall record to 10-2 with a 46-45 win. The Cougars built a 29-21 lead in the first half, then won despite scoring only 17 points in the second half.
Weed’s boys had previously lost to Trinity (7-4) the third game of the season, 64-42, in early December at Fall River’s Block F tournament.
The Cougars will be at home again Friday night to face Fall River. While the Cougars were defeating Trinity, Fall River's boys and girls teams both won close games against visiting Mount Shasta Jan. 5.
