Mount Shasta wins 2010 men's state ski racing championship

Five Mount Shasta High School ski racers earned All-State honors, and the Bears won the men’s team championship during the 2010 CNISSF state championships held March 8 and 9 at the Mt. Shasta Ski Park.
Mount Shasta’s David Carter placed 1st in slalom, 3rd in giant slalom and 2nd on the CNISSF Men’s Top Ten Combined - All-State Ski Team.
Carter’s total combined time for slalom and GS was 162.79, just 0.3 seconds behind state champion Chase Shirley of Portola. He was one of three Bears to finish in the top 5 on the men’s side.
Eric Hake placed 3rd in slalom, 5th in giant slalom and 4th on the All-State team.
Gavin Poore was 5th in slalom, 13th in giant slalom and 5th on the All-State team.
Alyssa Winkelman, who finished 2nd in slalom, 3rd in giant slalom and 2nd on the women’s All-State team, led Mount Shasta to 5th place in the state women’s team standings. 
She was joined on the All-State team by teammate Mariah Althaus-Cressman, who placed 7th in slalom, 13th in GS and 10th on the Top Ten Combined list.
Karly Kenworthy of Placer High was 1st in both slalom and GS and won the women’s state championship.
Her Placer team placed won the women’s state ski championship with 701 points, ahead of Colfax (667), Nevada Union (623), El Dorado (622), Mount Shasta (621) and Yreka (586).
In the men’s team standings, Mount Shasta placed first with 696 points, ahead of Ponderosa (644), Portola (642), Nevada Union (636) and El Dorado (609).
