Little League all-stars opened with 15-1 win

South Siskiyous’ Little League Major All-Star team opened the postseason Saturday in grand style with a 15-1 victory over Trinity in Redding.

The team that combines the talents of young players from Mount Shasta, Weed and Dunsmuir, is playing Little League ball for the first time in many years.
South Siskiyou lost its second game in the double elimination tournament Monday night against West Redding, 11-1, and is scheduled to play this evening at 6 p.m. against Cottonwood in an elimination game in Anderson.

“They’re awesome, a great bunch of kids,” South Siskiyou manager Alan Nebiolini said of his 12 year old All-Stars. “They’re tough kids who showed they all belong there in the All-Stars.”

South Siskiyou had everything moving in the right direction against Trinity and got contributions from the entire roster.

Starting pitcher Abe Radabaugh was followed on the mound by Pierce Nebiolini and Seth Huffman.

Tyler Santi had 2 singles, a walk and scored 2 runs.

Thairen Sivongsa walked and scored a run.

Pierce Nebiolini singled, walked twice and scored 3 runs.

Seth Huffman doubled and reached third on an overthrow.

Abe Radabaugh had 2 singles, a double and scored 3 runs.

Zach Cardoza singled twice and drove in 2.

Justin Dutra singled and scored a run.

Zach Krock singled and walked.

Joey Spini singled and walked twice.

Connor Bridwell walked.

Dylan Calzoni singled, walked and scored a run.

Evan Van Dyke walked and scored a run.

“It was a great night,” manager Nebiolini said.

The next game was not so great, as South Siskiyou’s players “were flat,” according to the manager. “We were a little stiff and made quite a few errors.”

Seth Huffman walked and scored the team’s only run against West Redding.
Abe Radabaugh singled, and Zach Cardoza had two singles and drove in the only run. Joey Spini also singled.

Spini was the starting pitcher, followed by Pierce Nebiolini.
The winner of tonight’s game against Cottonwood will advance to play Friday.

9-10 All-Stars lost opener to Yreka

South Siskiyou’s younger Little League All-Star team gained experience in a postseason-opening 7-4 loss to Yreka Saturday night in Redding.

They were scheduled to play an elimination game last night.

The thermometer went to triple digits Monday night.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, South Siskiyou scored 2 runs in the second inning, but Yreka scored 3 more.

South Siskiyou added a run in the third before Yreka scored 2 in the fourth and 1 in the fifth.

“They had a few nerves at the start, then settled down and played well,” assistant coach Kale Riccomini said of the All-Stars. “I was impressed with the way they handled themselves.”

Courtlen Cates, who pitched the first 3-plus innings, went 2 for 3 at the plate and walked once.

Kaden Riccomini, who pitched 1 inning, was 1 for 3 and walked once.

Westin Numanny was also 1 for 3.

Brooks Pavlik walked once, Kole Riccomini was hit by a pitch, Nathan Pappas was hit by a pitch, Kaimana Ferguson walked once, Colten Bertolucci was hit by a pitch, and Shawn Gunter was hit by a pitch.

Also playing for South Siskiyou were Bailey Burnett, Aiden Bravo, who pitched one inning, Abraham Barr and Kayden Sarti.

The win was the second straight for Yreka, which is scheduled to play again Thursday evening in the 13-team tournament.

Kale Riccomini said he sees the strong competition being good for the South Siskiyou players. “It motivates them to get better,” he said.
