Mount Shasta, Calif. -

Where else in the world can kids catch fish nearly as big as they are but at Kid’s Fishing Day at the Mount Shasta Fish Hatchery.
Several times a year the hatchery opens up the ponds where prize fish are bred and several hundred kids and parents reel in fish that your average angler would give anything to catch.
The June 20 event was no exception as huge trout were landed, sometimes with more than a little help from dad or mom, while kids’ eyes grew wide at the monsters attached to their lines.
Volunteers helped net the fish, attach bait, remove hooks and offer advice. Tackle and bait is offered free of charge.
The California Department of Fish Game sponsors the free events. There is a two fish limit for youngsters up to age 15. Another fishing day will be held in August.
