The Northern Section Finals proved to be a huge step up for south Siskiyou high school track and field athletes from Mount Shasta and Weed last Friday in Cottonwood.
Despite many personal bests by Mount Shasta High School athletes, there were no podium finishes after a stellar season that saw the Bears win league and Division 3 boys championships, while the girls placed second in both.
Same things was true for Dunsmuir High School’s 4 by 100 relay team and Theresa Kessler in the discus.
“It was way hot,” Mount Shasta coach Steve Nesheim said of the meet at West Valley High School.
All – or nearly all – those who competed at the section finals are champions at their previous levels, so it’s a victory just to have made it there.

More about the meet can be found in Mt. Shasta Area Newspapers' June 3 print or E-edition: http://mountshasta.ca.newsmemory.com/
