Governor declares state of emergency

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency in Kern County as a result of the Bull Fire in the Lake Isabella area and the West Fire in Tehachapi.

The two fires have burned more than 15,000 acres combined and displaced more than 2,300 people.

The Bull Fire started on Monday in the Riverkern region and the West Fire broke out Tuesday southeast of Tehachapi.

The Kern County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday had declared a local emergency and requested the state do the same.

With the declaration, state resources have been freed up to combat the blaze as well as assist those who have been affected by the fire.
