Audience members will be invited to solve a whodunnit murder mystery during the baseball-themed dinner theatre comedy “Death in the Dugout.”
A new original play written and directed by Doug York of Mount Shasta, performances are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. sharp Oct. 22 and 23 at the Piemont Restaurant in Mount Shasta and Oct. 29 at the Yreka Elks Lodge.
The cast includes DeLeon Grabowski, Craig and Linda Vivas, and York. Musician Dave Reynolds and foley artist Barbara Wagner complement the show with sound effects, spy music, baseball themes and classic rock.
“It’s like watching a cartoon with larger-than-life characters in hilarious costumes mixing among dinner guests to great comic effect,” said Wagner.
“Pretty dang funny,” said Dino McCarty of Granzella’s Deli on opening night, Sept. 18, in Williams.
York’s previous work includes the murder mystery comedy “Murder on the Rail,” which was performed aboard the Sunset Dinner Train in McCloud for many years.
He has performed his murder mystery comedy in real haunted mansions, vintage railroad cars, secret castles, and for private parties up and down the west coast over the past eight years, according to a press release.
York’s shows are described as “funny, witty and a bit naughty” by screenwriter Carolyn Wood.
He said, “I’m thrilled to offer my new story that appeals to baseball fans, mystery lovers and folks who love to laugh.”
One price of $49 includes the dinner, show, tax and gratuity.
Proceeds will benefit local little league. The Yreka event is supported by Poets & Writers through a grant it received from the James Irvine Foundation.
