There will be fun for everyone at the Weed Chamber of Commerce 54th Carnevale celebration, July 10 to 13, where people of all ages are encouraged to “come early and stay late” as stated in this year’s event theme.
Events in store this year include the parade, bocci and softball tournaments, the Top of the State race, music and dancing, a K9 show, carnival rides, and of course all of the food and refreshment booths and vendors.
The event will be primarily held at the Bel Air Park on College Ave. Admission to the grounds is free.
Due to parking lot construction parking will not be available at College of the Siskiyous. Parking will be available at Scott Valley Bank and at the corner of South Weed Blvd. and Phelps Ave., as well as on public streets. Chamber members encourage carpooling and shuttling.
Butler Amusement Inc. will be providing carnival rides again this year. Tickets are $17 in advance, $20 at the gate. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased at Scott Valley, Tri Counties, US and PremierWest banks, as well as the Weed Chamber Cabin, Shasta View Nursing Center Gift Shop, or on the chamber website - www.weedchamber.com.
Tickets are exchanged for a bracelet at the carnival booth worth unlimited rides. One bracelet per person, per day.
This year Butler Amusement will be bringing seven rides not featured last year.
The Chamber of Commerce receives a percentage of all pre-sale ticket revenues that is used to help fund future events. Chamber cabin hours are 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturday 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
The chamber is still accepting sponsors for Weed Pots, portable toilets. For $200 the sponsor(s) name(s) will be posted on both the outside and inside of the “pot” door.
Also, T-shirts with this year’s carnevale logo can be purchased in several sizes at the Chamber of Commerce Cabin.
Local favorites, the softball and bocci ball tournaments will be held throughout the weekend. The location has been changed to Bel-Air Park. Registration forms are available on the chamber website.
Former mayor of Weed Mel Borcalli will help kick off the Saturday festivities as grand marshal of the parade.
This year the parade will be on Saturday, July 12. The marching will begin behind the post office and head down Park Street, turning left on Grove, then up Main Street to Alamo. Lineup time is 10 a.m., parade starts at 11 a.m. There is a $5 entry fee.
The parade is sponsored by the McDonald’s of Weed and Yreka. Prizes are $100, $50 and $25 for first, second and third, respectively.
The Top of the State walk/run event will also be Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m., starting for the first time this year at Son’s Park instead of College of the Siskiyous.
After all that exercise be sure to head toward Bel-Air Park for some great local food from the vendors.
