The birdhouses on display at River Run Gallery in Weed were created by local artists using a variety of materials, including carved pieces of logs, twisted tree limbs, and pieces of pine cones.
Artist and gallery owner David Gochenour said the goal was to create “whimsical art objects with a function.”
One Gochenour creation in the “For the Birds” exhibit stands about six feet tall and is designed for a deck or garden.
The birdhouses are available through a silent auction, proceeds from which will benefit Weed’s Revitalization Coalition.
An exhibit-closing reception scheduled for this Sunday, June 15, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the gallery in downtown Weed will be the final opportunity to bid on the birdhouses or protect your bid to ensure that you get the birdhouse you want. Refreshments will be served.
Gochenour said some tourists from the Bay Area made bids this past Saturday afternoon, bringing the silent auction’s total to over $400. He and River Run co-owner Sharon LoMonaco are hoping that total will continue to grow in order to help the Revitalization Coalition as much as possible.
