Former mayor of Weed Mel Borcalli will help kick off the Saturday festivities during Carnevale weekend as grand marshal of the 2008 parade.
“Come Early - Stay Late” is the theme in 2008 for Weed’s 54th annual Carnevale held this year July 10 through 13.
The event will feature carnival rides, live music and sports events, including bocci ball, softball and the Top of the State walk/run.
Former mayor of Weed Mel Borcalli will help kick off the Saturday festivities as grand marshal of the parade.
The parade will begin behind the post office and march down Park Street, turning left on Grove, then up main Street to Alamo. Lineup time is 10 a.m., parade starts at 11 a.m. There is a $5 entry fee.
The parade is sponsored by the McDonald’s of Weed and Yreka. Prizes are $100, $50 and $25 for first, second and third, respectively.
Softball and bocci ball tournaments will be held on Friday and throughout the weekend.
The Top of the State walk/run event will be Saturday, July 12 at 8:30 a.m., starting for the first time this year at Son’s Park instead of College of the Siskiyous.
A K9 demonstration by the sheriff’s department, time and place TBA.
A junior bocci ball tournament will be held Thursday, July 10.
Commercial and food vendor applications are available at the chamber website.
Carnevale music and entertainment line up will feature local talent that will be rocking throughout the day and late into the night.
The stage schedule is designed to encourage people to do just as this year’s theme says: “Come Early, Stay Late - Weed Carnevale 2008,” according to Weed Chamber of Commerce President Ronda Gubetta.
The entertainment will begin at 5 p.m. on Fri. evening and at Noon on Sat. and Sun. and each day run until Midnight.

Friday, July 11 - King and Queen starting at 5 p.m.; Kanybl Kaow at 5:30 p.m.; the Ted Taforo Quartet at 7 p.m.; Los Homely Boys at 8:30 p.m.; and Rokit at 10 p.m.
Saturday, July 11 - Wild Blues Yonder at 12 p.m.; Mt. Shasta Martial Arts at 2:15 p.m.; Siskiyou Dance Studio at 2:45 p.m.; Line Dancers at 3:15 p.m.; Mt. Gypsies at 4 p.m.; Bruno Grossi at 5 p.m.; Jesse and Friends at 6 p.m.; Somethin’ Funky at 7 p.m.; DJ Reunion at 8 p.m.; and Surface Rising at 10:30 p.m.
On Sunday, July 13 Raven Moon will be performing from noon until close.
The performances will be located in front of Bel-Air Park on College Avenue.
