Rick Louis Miralles, age 52, passed away on December 5, 2009 in Nampa, Idaho after a four year battle with a rare form of stomach cancer.
Rick was born on December 3, 1957 to Joy and Richard Miralles in Lakeport, California, the youngest of three children.
During Rick’s childhood, the family moved from Lakeport to Fresno and finally to Redding where Rick attended Shasta High School. They moved to Yreka during Rick’s junior year. He returned to Redding for his senior year, graduating from Shasta High.
Rick attended junior college and ultimately decided to work for the California Department of Forestry.
He was stationed in several locations before being promoted to the Fresno region as a Fire Apparatus Engineer, working his way up to LT Captain before an injury, resulting in his medical retirement in 1995.
Rick then moved back to the Redding area where he met Rhonda Casey and her children Bryan and Ethan. Rhonda and Rick were married on October 19, 2002 in Lake Tahoe. In 2005 they moved to Nampa, Idaho which was also the time Rick was diagnosed with cancer.
Rick was an athlete, excelling in basketball, baseball, football and track. He loved animals, the outdoors and stream fishing. He had a great sense of humor and the ability to imitate almost anyone. He loved his family and had a strong faith in God.
Survivors include his wife, Rhonda; stepsons, Ethan of Nampa, Idaho and Bryan of Lemoore; parents, Joy and Richard Miralles of Lake Shastina; sister, Kathy (Miralles) Olsen (and David) of Woodland; brother, Gary Miralles (and Diane) of Redding; two nephews, Shawn and Corey Olsen of Woodland; niece, Loriel Miralles of Sacramento; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and great nephews.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 4309 Vallecito Street in Shasta Lake City.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals; or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
