After spending two harrowing nights high on  Mt. Shasta, Mark Thomas, 26, of Berkeley was found on Monday afternoon by Mt. Shasta Rangers as he was hiking back to his vehicle, which was parked on Military Pass Road.

Thomas’s partner, Thomas Bennett, 26, of Oakland remains on the mountain.
Thomas told rescuers that when he left Bennett late on Sunday afternoon to begin his decent, Bennet was unresponsive, and he was fearful that his partner may be deceased.

The Siskiyou County Sherriff’s office reported yesterday that Thomas is in good condition.  He did suffer frostbit on one of his fingers but  declined medical attention.

The weather conditions continue to prohibit an attempt to rescue  Bennett at this time.
