Weed High School competed in its first meet of 2010 at Central Valley in the Burt Williams Classic last week.
Though the team’s performances were “a bit uneven,” according to coach Dan DeRoss, they “did very well in some events and others we found that we need to improve significantly... However, overall it was a very positive start to our season.”
Micah White finished second in the long jump 18'7".
Tyler Moser ran personal bests in the 1600 (5:07) and 3200 (11:36) finishing 3rd in the 3200.
Cody Beam finished 6th in the 400m running 57.2.
Norman Peterson finished second in both the shot put and discus, throwing 38'5" in the shot and setting a personal best at 120'7" in the discus throw.
DeRoss said Brandon Williams and Kyle Bohling both competed well for the first meet of the year, and Andrew Tavalero, Darin Thomas, Chris Von Tunglen “all gained valuable experience in their events.”
Nicolette Neel ran a 30.1 in the 200m to place 6th.
Freshman Brooke McBrian ran a 6:17 in the 1600m, placing her 3rd and 2:47 in the 800m for a 1st place finish.
Karene Marshall and Kaitlin Van Hooser both competed well for their first high school meet in the hurdles.
Elizabeth DeRoss and Nicolette Neel ran competitively in the 800m.
Kera Vogel competed well in the 100m hurdles, DeRoss said, even though she is nursing an injury.
Kobi Mills placed 5th in the shot put with a throw of 24'1".
Freshman Jaime Fiorino competed well in the 200m.
Weed High School’s next meet will be Thursday, April 1 (weather permitting) at Mount Shasta High School.
