The Weed Cougars stayed unbeaten in Shasta Cascade League golf with a 12-0 victory Thursday at the Mt. Shasta Resort.

Host Mount Shasta placed third behind Modoc and remains third in the team standings.

The wind was a factor at the Resort as Weed’s Jake West was medalist with a 71 and Mount Shasta’s Daulton Davis had the second best score, 82.

Four Cougars posted scored between 85 and 89, as Tanner Shelton and Adam Anderson both shot 85, Robert West 86 and Liam Hagarty 89. Caleb Goltz shot 94.

The best of the rest for Mount Shasta’s young team was a 103 by Joshua Warshausky. Also playing for the Bears were Daniel Howell,
Bradley Reed, RV Williams and Sawyer Ducharme.

The best of the rest by players from Modoc, Etna, Anderson New Tech, Fall River and Trinity was 85 by Morgan of Modoc.

The all-league leaders list after week 5 shows Jake West well ahead of the rest with 78 points, followed by Shelton (58.5), Robert West (52.5), Hagarty (47), Davis (44.5), Anderson (33.5) and Morgan (33.5).

Weed then went on to become the first small schools team to ever win the Running Y tournament in Southern Oregon, in a field that included many of the top teams in both southern Oregon and northern California.

The Cougars will keep possession of the tournament’s perpetual trophy for the next year. Teams names engraved on the trophy include Klamath Union, Pleasant Valley, Enterprise, Shasta and Mazama.
