Nacho Escatel’s team won twice to finish on top in the three-team Weed Carnevale coed softball tournament Thursday at Bel Air Park.

They defeated Rob Moser’s team in the championship game, which ended when it got too dark to see well enough to continue.

Many of those playing on Nacho’s team are veterans who were with him for many years when his Casa Ramos team was winning championships in the south county coed league that no longer exists.

Pitcher Juan Sanchez has been playing with Nacho for 15 years.

Cookie Reynolds has been on Nacho’s teams for 16 years.

Holli Howard-Carpenter, who recently landed a job as the associate head coach for the Cal State East Bay women’s basketball team, has also played on Nacho’s teams for many years.

A Weed High School and College of the Siskiyous graduate, Howard-Carpenter will be moving to Hayward after spending the last four years as assistant coach at Chico State.
