Juel Edward “Barney” Lofthus was born on September 22, 1917 in Adams, North Dakota and died on September 13, 2010 in Redding, California.

Barney was the eighth of nine children. His father emigrated from Norway and his mother emigrated from Canada.

The family homesteaded in Adams, North Dakota and were winter wheat farmers.

Barney moved to McCloud, California in 1934.

He joined the Army during World War II and was wounded in a battle in France.

Barney was married to Rellia De Marco for over 50 years. He worked for the McCloud River Lumber Company and International Paper Company for over 30 years.

Viewing will take place Thursday, Sept. 16 from noon to 3 p.m. at Mt. Shasta Memorial Chapel.

A service celebrating the life of Barney will be held on Friday, September 17 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Shasta Memorial Park.
