A 25 year old man from Redding/Mount Shasta was arrested at about 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19 after driving a stolen pickup into a ditch and fleeing from officers on foot.

Douglas Jeremiah Stout, Jr. allegedly took a red 1990 Ford Ranger that had been parked in front of Mt. Shasta Tire sometime before 8 a.m. that morning, according to the Mount Shasta Police Department.

The truck was spotted around 9:30 a.m. and a vehicle pursuit was initiated. According to a MSPD press release, the suspect drove the truck into a ditch at the dead end of Old Mill Street, then left the vehicle and took off on foot.

A reverse 911 call went out to local residents to keep on the lookout for the suspect, and Mount Shasta Elementary went into lockdown mode for a short time.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., a reserve officer spotted the suspect in front of Black Bear Diner where he was apprehended, the press release states.

It was determined that Stout was currently on CDC Parole. He was transported to Siskiyou County Jail for theft of a motor vehicle and evading arrest. According to the MSPD, a parole hold was placed on Stout by his parole officer.
