It is again time for AAU Basketball in Siskiyou County. Siskiyou Slam is inviting all interested boys and girls basketball players between the ages of 11 and 18 to try out for the 2012 teams. A mandatory meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 5 at 7 p.m. in the Weed High School gym for athletes and their parents.

For the last five years, AAU basketball has been providing Siskiyou County’s young athletes the opportunity to bring their basketball skills to a new level, according to Siskiyou Slam coordinator Steve Neel. He says athletes from Etna, Mount Shasta, Weed, Yreka, and other communities in Siskiyou County “have enjoyed this great experience. The benefits of being part of this elite basketball program have proven to be numerous. Better competition breeds a better competitor.”

Each year, the team travels to locations such as Chico, Rocklin, Redding, Medford, and Reno to play against other AAU teams.

“Our athletes are exposed to extremely talented teams, pushing them to become better players themselves,” Neel points out in a press release. “Our goal is to enable Siskiyou County athletes in their goals of playing basketball beyond the high school level.”

Motivated, highly-skilled coaches are also wanted.

The March 5 meeting will address tryout information, tournament schedules, practice places and times, and costs, including registration fees and uniforms, hotel, travel, and meal expenses.

The cost involved to participate in Siskiyou Slam is minimal compared to most AAU programs, according to the press release. For further information, contact Steve Neel, coordinator for the Siskiyou Slam, at (530) 938-4787.
