Not many details are being released regarding a suspicious death investigation underway in Weed, where on the morning of March 12, the Weed Police Department responded to a Gilman Ave. address for a report of a deceased person.

Family members of Henry Mariani, 85, said after he was taken to a local mortuary that items inside his home were possibly missing.

The Weed PD reported Tuesday, March 27 that an autopsy determined Mariani’s preliminary cause of death as internal bleeding caused by blunt force trauma.

Corporal Mike Hallagan said the department is considering the case as a “suspicious death that occurred during the commission of a crime.”

The WPD said two suspects were in custody at the Siskiyou County Jail on unrelated charges. Formal charges are pending results of forensic evidence obtained at the scene.

Further information isn’t being released due to the ongoing investigation, Hallagan said.
