Marina (Silvestri) Barsetti passed away peacefully on July 11, 2012 at the family home in Mount Shasta, California, surrounded by her children and her son-in-law and daughter-in-law.
Devoted wife of 61 years to Gino Barsetti (deceased); loving mother to Orlindo Barsetti and Anna (Barsetti) Marchi; daughter-in-law, Barbara (Watts) Barsetti; son-in-law, Mario Marchi; and grandmother of David Marchi and Nathan Barsetti and their wives Petit and Nicole. She was very proud of becoming a great-grandmother to Talus Marchi and Audrey Barsetti.
Although born in San Francisco, California in 1922 to Italian immigrants Stefano and Anna Silvestri, she and her parents returned to Italy when she was two years old and spent the next 30 years in the village of San Cassiano di Controne, near Lucca, until she returned to the US with her family in 1953. They settled in the Excelsior District where she lived surrounded by friends and family from her little town in Italy.
Upon her and her husband’s retirement, she and Gino began going back to her home in Tuscany during the summer months, seeing her childhood friends, her relatives, working on her home, and reacquainting herself with the Italian way of life.
During these visits she had the opportunity to travel and see places she only heard about in her younger life. She truly enjoyed these new experiences.
A superb homemaker and cook, no one was ever hungry at Marina’s house. She truly loved taking care of people.
Everyone who knew her will miss the sweet, caring person that she was.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Mass which will be held on Friday, July 27 at 5 p.m. at the Church of Epiphany, 800 block of Vienna Street, in San Francisco.
Arrangements are in the care of Mt. Shasta Memorial Chapel.
