Earl Allen Bassett, a long time resident of
Mt. Shasta, died on Sunday January 6, at
the age of 95. Earl was born on December
21, 1917 to Ethel and Verne Bassett in
Burney, California. He graduated from Big
Valley High School in Adin, California in
1935. Earl owned and operated Bassett’s
Texaco from 1946 until the mid 1970’s.
He then worked with his wife Reita, at
“Party Talk”the first card and gift shop in
Mt. Shasta. He was preceded in death by
his wife of 74 years Reita, his son Larry and
his siblings Theo and Jesse. Earl is survived
by his son Lyle (Verrill), grandchildren Kevin (Susan), Eric (Kristen),
great grandchildren Ryan, Jace, Jack, Kara, Luke, and many
nieces and nephews. Earl proudly served his country and his community.
He served in the Navy in World War II aboard a Mine
Sweeper in the Pacific. He was a member of the VFW and a past
President of the Mt. Shasta Rotary Club as well as a proud volunteer
for the Mt. Shasta Fire Department for many years. At Earl’s
request there will be no services. Remembrances can be made in
