An early morning single vehicle collision damaged approximately 100 feet of guardrail and a traffic sign.

The slow lane of southbound Interstate 5 just south of Flume Creek is expected to be closed much of the day Friday for clean-up and guardrail repair following an early morning single vehicle collision.

At approximately 12:45 a.m., a 2013 Kenworth truck tractor pulling a box trailer loaded with charcoal drifted off the roadway and collided with approximately 100 feet of guardrail and a traffic sign, according to a report from the Mount Shasta area California Highway Patrol office.

Driver Sumeet Nirmal Singh, age 24 of Sacramento, and passenger Rabendra Singh, 52, of Renton, Wash., were both transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta for various minor injuries sustained in the crash, according to the CHP report.

The CHP said Singh was travelling at an unknown rate of speed when he drifted off the roadway for an unknown reason. The collision is still under investigation.
