Siskiyou County’s unemployment rate declined more than a point to 15.4 percent in March with small numbers of jobs added in several industries, including manufacturing of non-durable goods, leisure and hospitality, professional and business services and government.
In March 2012, the county’s jobless rate was at 18 percent, according to statistics released Friday by the state Employment Development Department.
Of a workforce of 18,690, 2,870 were unemployed last month, the EDD reported.
Siskiyou is now ranked 49 out of California’s 58 counties in terms of unemployment. Nearby Shasta county is ranked 35 with a rate of 12.5 percent.
At the top of the list is Marin County, with a rate of 5.2 percent. Colusa County is ranked last with 23.9 percent, according to the EDD.
Statewide, the rate dropped to 9.4 percent and the US rate went from 8.1 percent in February to 7.6 percent in March.
