The Jefferson State Maidens of Mayhem recorded their first win Saturday against the Red Bluff Derby Girls at the "Brawl of the Wild" bout, held at the Tehama District Fairgrounds.

Jefferson State won the bout with a final score of 179 to 141.

The team, composed of women from throughout Siskiyou County, were down by 60 points at the half but "pulled it together the second half," said derby girl Regina Weston, also known as Reckless Reg. "After a few high scoring power jams by Diva Destruction (Jessica Vickers) and Moxy Speed Bean (Briget Jackman), we were able to take the lead!"

Weston said it is a derby tradition for each team to give awards after the bout.

Maxy McCrusher (Sara Klebig) was awarded Best Blocker, Diva Destruction (Vickers) was awarded Best Jammer and Mizzery Blizzness (Elizabeth Fitzgerald) was named Penalty Box Princess.

The Maidens of Mayhem are currently learning a routine for this year's July 4 parade in Mount Shasta and are busy preparing for their next bout Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Siskiyou Golden Fairgrounds, when they will take on the Battle Born Derby Demons of Reno.

The Maidens are looking for more players. Anyone over 18 can join, and being able to skate is not a requirement. The team is also in the market for a coach and non-skating officials.
