John W. Blevins, 70, of Lexington, North Carolina, died on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at his home.

John was born on February 21, 1943 in Scott County, Arkansas to Eunice and Woody Blevins. He attended Dunsmuir Elementary and Dunsmuir High School.

John was a veteran of the US Army and served in Vietnam where he received the Purple Heart. He was retired from Stone Container.

John is survived by his wife, Brenda Blevins; sons: Mark Blevins of Weed, California, Tim Blevins of DeRidder, Louisiana, Randy Blevins of Lexington, North Carolina, and Barry Blevins of High Point, North Carolina; daughter, Sharon Houghton of Greenville, Ohio; their spouses; and five grandchildren: Christopher Blevins, Bailey Blevins, Mallory Blevins, Alex Blevins and Krissy Blevins.

He is also survived by his brother, Allen Blevins of Mount Shasta, California; sister, Beth (Betsy) Jackson of Weed, California; their spouses; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patricia; and brothers, Harlon and Joe.

John’s funeral was held at Davidson Funeral Chapel. The procession to the National Cemetery in Salisbury, North Carolina was led by several members of the Patriot Guard Riders.
