Herman Becker, age 86, of Sacramento, California passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2013.
Herman was born in Cottage Grove, Oregon on October 19, 1926 and grew up in Dunsmuir, California. After graduating from Dunsmuir High School, Herm enlisted in the Army and served in Japan at the end of World War II.
Herm married the love of his life, Mary Alice DeRushia, on January 28, 1950 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in McCloud. They settled in Sacramento where they raised their family.
Their wonderful 60 year marriage was a testament of their love and commitment until Mary’s death in 2010. We know they are so happy to be together again now.
Herm worked for decades for Golden State Dairy, Foremost Dairies, and Crystal Creamery before retiring to enjoy more time with his family.
Herm was a loving father to Steve (and Noni), Beverly, and Mike (and Dana); and granddaughter, Kelly (and Jeremy) Wright. He will also be deeply missed by his grandchildren: Dennis (and Beverly), Joel (and Jessica), Stephen, Cody, Kevin, and Allison Becker; and great-grandchildren: Trevor Becker, Mia and Royce Wright, and Brodie Becker.
Herm is also survived by nieces: Penny (and Larry) Melvin and Judy (and Joe) Fornero; and many other nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
An avid sports enthusiast, Herm played baseball, basketball and football in his younger days. As the years passed, he enjoyed coaching Whitney Little League and watching his children and grandchildren participate in a variety of sports.
Herm also loved cheering for the San Francisco Giants and 49ers. He had a great sense of humor and could always be counted on to make you smile.
Herm was an exemplary family man – loving, loyal, honest, responsible, understanding, ethical, fair and trustworthy.
A mass will be celebrated for Herm at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, August 6 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 321 W. Colombero in McCloud.
