In echoes of the Boston Marathon bombing case, media outlets wrongly identified a shooter in today’s Navy Yard rampage. NBC News and CBS News both ran a name but not long after retracted it. CBS tweeted, "BREAKING.@johnmillercbs advises the initial reports identifying the suspected shooter as Rollie Chance are wrong." And NBC not long after tweeted, "NBC News: we are now NOT reporting name of shooter; retracting that report. deleting those tweets."
