Alan Dahmes Johns passed away peacefully on October 7, 2013 in Yreka, California at the age of 81.

Alan was born in Denver, Colorado. He grew up in the Salt Lake City area before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area.

Alan served in the US Navy for over 20 years as a naval aviator flying anti-submarine aircraft off aircraft carriers and then as a computer systems analyst, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

He was educated at UC Berkeley and the Naval Academy in Monterey. His passions were computers, poetry, and numerous patriotic, community service, and veterans causes.

Alan served for the local Kiwanis for over 30 years and was active in Habitat for Humanity of Siskiyou County.

Alan is survived by his children, Tim and Michelle Johns of San Marcos, California, Rich and Judy Johns of Escondido, California, Nancy Johns of San Juan Capistrano, California, and Jeff and Andrea Johns of Carlsbad, California; and had two deceased sons, Peter and Paige Johns. Alan also had nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary and Janet.

He is also survived by his wife of 12 years, Carole Johns of Yreka; her children: Diane and Daryl Wheeler of Hope, Idaho, Steve and Michele Russell of Browns Valley, California, and David Russell of Yreka; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be held on Saturday, October 19 at 1 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 1124 Pine Grove Drive in Mount Shasta, California. Alan will be laid to rest at the Henley-Hornbrook Cemetery in Hornbrook, California.
