A bright light in our family dimmed on February 10, 2014, when Don went home to prepare a place for the rest of us. He joins his parents, Don Jr. and Peggy June; brother, Douglas; the best dog ever, Doc; and other family members too numerous to mention. Thanks to his life-long interest in genealogy he has the opportunity to interview those who’ve gone before and discover the missing pieces to the family puzzle. Don was born January 5, 1946, in Tulare, spent his youth in Salinas and Santa Rosa, and his adult years in Lake County and Mount Shasta, gathering wonderful friends along the way. He retired from AT&T in 2001. He volunteered as a firefighter/EMT in Lake County and Mount Shasta, at the Mt. Shasta Family History Center, and as camp host for the USFS. He was passionate about the things he loved: family, motorcycle endurance racing, snowmobiling, flying, sailing, 4-wheeling, RVing, and his budding relationship with Jesus. His garage was his castle! Those who will forever miss Don include his wife and best friend Claudia; the sons he was so proud of: Matt (Stephanie) of Chico and Doug (Robyn), currently stationed with the USAF in Maryland; five of the best grandkids ever: Garrick, Amber, Lynlee, Gavin, and Raven; two beautiful great-granddaughters: Kylie and Emma; his cherished siblings: Kathy Daw of Santa Rosa, Scott Moore of Sparks, Nevada, Carrie Moore of Redding, and Barry Moore of N. Lima, Ohio; and extended family. His biggest regret was missing family milestones to come. A family memorial celebration will be held this summer when we all feel more like smiling and sharing happy memories. Donations in Don’s name to the American Cancer Society or Wounded Warrior Project would be appreciated. Mt. Shasta Memorial Chapel is handling the arrangements.
