Gyms in south Siskiyou County are sure to be packed Friday night when four teams take the court to move ahead in the playoffs.
Mount Shasta and Weed high schools will both host playoff basketball games this Friday, Feb. 28.
The Lady Bears will face Etna beginning at 6:30 p.m., followed by a boy’s playoff game against Trinity at about 8 p.m.
Weed High School boys and girls teams will both face Modoc. The Lady Cougars begin at 6:30 and the boys team is set to begin at approximately 8 p.m.
On Tuesday, Feb. 25, both Bears teams were victorious in first round playoff contests.
The Lady Bears had the lead over Williams in the first quarter, but lost it in the second. They came back after the half and took the lead to win 45-34. Sejay Sarti was the Bears’ top scorer with 24 points, including five three-pointers.
Mount Shasta boys kept the lead throughout and beat East Nicholas by a score of 79-44. Daylon Blakely made 18 points, including four three-pointers, as did Brandon Acord, who scored 16 points.
The Weed Cougars boy’s team beat Williams to move ahead on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
The score was tied, 13-13, early in the second quarter. That quarter ended Weed 29, Williams 26. The final score was Weed 69, Williams 60.
