The lucky 13 are now only 12 on American Idol. The reality singing competition sent home its first finalist Thursday after a relatively lackluster performance night. Ryan Seacrest says that a whopping 70 million votes came in -- but does that include the Super Vote, which counts for 50? American Idol recap: The Top 13 perform!Skip to the end to find out who became the first to go home. For now, a few ramdom observations about the results show: Opening group number The 13 take on Imagine Dragons' hit "Radioactive," which is predictably awkward for some who really haven't learned to cheese it up for the camera or prance yet. (We're looking at you, Sam and MK!) Randy the De-Mentor He assessment of the contestants' performances last night are again, thought out and concise. He pulls his punches at times, but we have to still acknowledge he's a more eloquent mentor than he was a judge. Perhaps he's better when he's had time to collect his thoughts. Return of the champ Last season's winner Candice Glover is the guest performer tonight and reminds us that she can really sing with a medley of two of her tracks, "Cried" and "Same Kinda Man." We could've done without the huge weepy photo in the backdrop though.
Bromance continues In the "Get to Know You" ambush, Harry Connick Jr. admits that he hasn't seen Keith Urban naked, but he'd like to. Get in line, Harry.

Tastemaker This segment highlights an artist we may not know. Jake Bugg, a 19-year-old English singer-songwriter is Keith's pick, and Idol even has footage of the judge talking about Bugg during the auditions. It's crazy. Bugg looks like he could be a long-lost Ramone, but has quite a delightful twang. We're getting music recommendations from Keith from now on.
It turns out that MK and Malaya are safe. Kristen sings her Rush Week song for the save, but the judges elect not to use it because it's not a unanimous vote. So long, Kristen! At least this swan song was better than "Beautiful Disaster" from last night.
Did the right singer go home? What do you want next week's theme to be? Did you like this week's Tastemaker? Do you want to see Keith naked? American Idol airs Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8/7c on Fox.
