Georgia Serna was sent to the lord to join her husband, Cedro Serna and her parents, Manuel and Alice Romero on February 28, 2014, surrounded by her loving family and members of Mercy Hospice of Mount Shasta.

She spent the prior two months under the care with the wonderful staff of Shasta View Nursing Center in Weed.

Georgia was born in the mountains near Mora, New Mexico on October 12, 1930 on their small family farm.

They later relocated to Westwood in northern California where she attended school and met the love of her life, marrying in Reno, Nevada in 1948. They moved to her husband’s hometown of Weed to raise their family.

She spent some of those early years waitressing at various diners; then later working at Weed Elementary School for nearly 25 year as a teacher’s aide.

Georgia loved donating her time to the Holy Family Church in Weed, helping with many functions as a member of the church’s Alter Society.

She also found joy volunteering for many years at the College of the Siskiyous’ Eagles Nest Thrift Store.

Georgia is survived by her brothers: Roger and wife Judy Romero of Redding, and Carl and wife Sara Romero of Reno, Nevada; sister, Millie and her husband CJ Williams also of Redding; daughters: Greta and her husband Jon Boyer of Mammoth Lakes, Kathy and her husband Hans Knudsen of Montague, and Karen Serna of Woodland; her sons, Raymond and his wife Susan Serna of Weed, Reuben Serna of Ventura; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1051 N Davis in Weed on Saturday, March 15 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Georgia’s name to Mercy Hospice of Mount Shasta, 914 Pine Street, Mount Shasta, CA 96067.
