Gloria Rae (Burns) Flack passed away on April 27, 2014, of respiratory failure. She celebrated her 75th birthday on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2014 with a luncheon and a party with cake and gifts.
Her husband Floyd and her sister and brother-in-law were with her. “This is the best birthday I’ve ever had,” she said.
Gloria graduated from the local schools – Dunsmuir High School and College of the Siskiyous in Weed, California.
A faithful member of the Church of Christ in Dunsmuir, she made many friends who prayed for her and helped her through her trials.
Even after surviving cancer, a broken hip, and a broken pelvis, she taught herself to use a computer to keep in touch with family and friends when she became house-bound. She learned to walk again after having a stroke, and did not complain.
She is survived by her devoted husband Floyd, who cared for her lovingly until her last day; an aunt, Betty Jo Krug of Medford, Oregon; her sister and brother-in-law, Nancee and Wally Girard of Walnut Creek, California; her cousin Gerald Miller of Las Vegas, Nevada; and several other cousins, nieces and nephews. Her son, Kevin Whitmer preceded her in death in 2012.
Gloria and Floyd were married for 35 years and lived in Mount Shasta.
Kind, caring, honest and loving, her nieces and nephews remember her as a “fun aunt” who took them places in her Volkswagen and played board games with them.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 2 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Shasta Memorial Chapel, 830 Lassen Lane, Mount Shasta, California. Interment will immediately follow at Mt. Shasta Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, please send any donations in her name to: Mercy Mt. Shasta Hospice, 914 Pine Street, Mount Shasta, CA 96067.
