For the fourth year in a row, the Senior girls all-star team from southern Siskiyou County defeated the team from the north county in the best of three Battle of the Bat tournament.

At the end of a long hot Saturday at Sisson Field, the South Siskiyou senior girls all-star softball team defeated North Siskiyou in the 4th Annual Battle of the Bat tournament.

Coach Brandon Burns said the south county all stars “overcame the heat and errors” to win the tournament for the fourth year in a row.

Tournament MVP Quincie Cross pitched South Siskiyou to victories in games one and three and finished the day with a .416 batting average and .666 on-base percentage.

South Siskiyou’s team featured girls from the undefeated Mt. Shasta Hulks and Dunsmuir Redhawks.

Standouts players for South Siskiyou included Breanna Saltzgaver, Jolene Rhodes, Abby Andrus, Ialee Hering, Cami Brooks, Bella Powers, Nicole Jones, Judy Hoey, Erica Smith, Shanalyn Mori, and Lily Hitchcock-Burns, who finished the day with the best overall batting average at .545 and the team’s best on base percentage at .727.

South Siskiyou won game one,

9-1, then lost game two, 9-8. Coach Burns said Jolene Rhodes pitched “a great game” in game two, but South Siskiyou “came up a few errors shy of the win after extra innings.”

South Siskiyou won the final game of the best of three series,

13-7. Coach Burns said Quincie Cross “pitched an amazing game and picked up the win.”
