Jill Gardner of Mount Shasta submitted this poem for Dr. Jim Parker, whose memorial celebration is scheduled for 5 p.m. July 17, 2014 in the Mount Shasta High School gymnasium. All who attend are invited to bring garden flowers that will be added to a community creation. In her submission, Gardner commented, "Thank you Jim Parker for all the sweetness you shared with us!"

By Jill Gardner

when perfect and ripe
release their grip on the vine
just slightly

The pearly red fruit peels away
from a tiny white center cone
as if ready
as if all it wants is to drop
into my open hand

When I become ripe
I hope to fall ready
into the open hand of The Picker
and become a sweet ecstasy on the tongue
of Creation
