The Siskiyou County Sheriff's office states in a news release that the plane had pesticides on board, and the FAA has been contacted to assist in the investigation.

The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office says it has confirmed the report of a plane crash and the death of its pilot Friday morning, Aug. 1, about one to two miles west of Tulelake on East West Road.

Deceased pilot William Whitlatch, 58, of Klamath Falls, was flying a crop duster and did have pesticides on board, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s office.

Siskiyou County Public Health has been advised, and the Sheriff’s Office is asking that the public avoid the area if possible due to downed power lines and other dangers, according to the release. “The FAA has been notified of the crash and will be assisting the SCSO in the investigation of incident.”

The Sheriff’s Office expressed “deepest condolences to the family of William Whitlatch.”
