Complete containment of the fire that started July 31 about 25 miles northeast of Weed is expected by Friday.
As of Wednesday morning, Highway 97 was re-opened to traffic in both directions without need for pilot or escort vehicles.
The Little Deer Fire was listed this morning as 77 percent contained at 5,279 acres.
Started by lightning July 31 near Little Deer Mountain along Highway 97, about 25 miles northeast of Weed, the fire was continuing to creep and smolder, and fire officials say some burned areas may have potential for re-burn.
There were 599 personnel working the fire, which is expected to be completely contained by Friday.
Firefighters and their vehicles are still present along the highway, so motorists are advised to slow down when driving in the area.
