McCloud Heritage Days will be held August 16 and 17 with events throughout the town.

As it has since its 1991 inception, the 2014 Heritage Days in McCloud will be demonstrating life in a mill town.

Events the weekend of Aug. 16-17 include carriage rides through town, a custom car and motorcycle show, tours of the historic McCloud buildings, a quilt show, Friday night tri-tip dinner, Firemen’s breakfast for early birds, the Garden Club’s homemade pie sales, artisan and heritage craft vendors, steam and rail speeder displays, community art show, watermelon eating contest, face painting, wool spinning, candle making, fishing demonstrations and information and a home-spun melodrama about historic McCloud events.

The melodrama, titled “The Muddy Mess of ’24,” was written by and is being performed by museum volunteers and supporters. See schedule right for performance times.

Live entertainment will include the Edelweiss Singers and Dancers, Home Spun Duet, Spring House band, singer Carol Cox, and the Junk Parlor.

A Saturday night street dance is planned from 7 to 10 p.m.

A book signing at the Heritage Junction Museum will feature author Carol Cox, who wrote “Communities of the Mt. Shasta Region.”

A dedication honoring Bob Leatherman for his contributions to the community is scheduled for Aug. 16 at 2:45 p.m. on the museum porch.

Keith Earnest will be the special guest speaker for a Sunday morning community church service at 9:30 a.m. at the McCloud Community Church on California St.

Heritage Days proceeds support the Heritage Junction Museum, a non-profit organization that relies on donations and this event.
