Longtime Siskiyou County resident, Earl Marvin Haines, passed away on January 22, 2015 at Fairchild Medical Center in Yreka, California. He was 85 years old.

Earl was born on June 26, 1929 in Gazelle, California to Frank and Esther Haines. He grew up in Siskiyou County and graduated from Mount Shasta High School.

He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict.

Earl worked for Caltrans for over 30 years, working his way up to superintendent, and lived throughout California during that period. After he retired from Caltrans, he returned to his native Siskiyou County.

He was a lifelong deer hunter. Earl was a member of the Howard Lodge No. 37 F&AM. What he enjoyed most was his yearly winter trips down to Mexico in his RV.

Earl is survived by his daughter, Sherrie Peery of Yreka; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Sue Haines; an infant daughter, Joni Haines; and Mary Tingley, who was like a daughter to Earl.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 30 at 11 a.m. at Girdner Funeral Chapel in Yreka.

Interment will follow at Mt. Shasta Memorial Park, where he will be laid to rest next to his wife, Bonnie.
