David Lee Dawson was born in Fletcher, Oklahoma to Lloyd and Christine Burch Dawson on July 28, 1929; and passed away on January 19, 2015 in Spokane, Washington.
At the age of 10 Dave traveled by train to settle with his family in Weed, California. He graduated from Weed High School in 1948 and joined the Navy.
He married his high school sweetheart, Dolores Smith, on October 29, 1948. They were married for 66 years.
Dave went to work in 1952 for the Weed Police Department as a Deputy Sheriff and Patrolman. He also held the position of Police Chief from 1957 till 1964.
The family then moved to Concord, California in 1966 where he worked in security for Safeway Stores; with a move to Spokane, Washington in 1970. Dave was Director of Security for Rosauers Stores from 1981 until his retirement in 1995.
Dave is survived by his wife, Dolores of Spokane, Washington; and his four daughters: Linda (and Randy) Kaiser of Spokane, Washington, Cinda (and John) Taylor of Renton, Washington, Genny (and Dick) Webb of Big Fork, Montana, and Susan (and Kerry) Tritt of Spokane, Washington. He was blessed with eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Dave is also survived by two brothers and one sister: Melvin (and Bertilla) Dawson of Weed, California, Danny (and Dawn) Dawson of Mount Shasta, California, and Margaret Ann (and Chuck) Chitwood of Mount Shasta, California.
Dave had great love for his family and a never ending passion for golf (Wandermere and Lake Shastina golf courses), hockey (Spokane Chiefs), basketball, (Gonzaga Bulldogs) and football (Seattle Seahawks).
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Mount Shasta, California.
