Plans call for closing the southbound Interstate 5 off-ramp at the Colliers Rest Area from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays during emergency slide repair work scheduled to begin today, March 19, 2015.

The closure will be in effect for an estimated two to three weeks while the work is done near Hornbrook at State Route 96 in Siskiyou County, according to a release from California Department of Transportation’s District 2.

Motorists will be detoured to the next off-ramp at Montague Road and turned around.

Caltrans says the $1.2 million slope repair project is necessary following an early February storm that destabilized the area.

“Maintenance personnel have placed K-Rail along the shoulder of Interstate 5 to temporarily keep rocks and other debris from entering the southbound lanes, but now must permanently repair the slope,” the release states.

Caltrans has established a Road Construction Hotline to keep motorists updated. Call (530) 225-3452 for information on project status and possible delay times.
