Roy J. "Rudy" Striegel, 89, passed away peacefully on April 7, in Ventura, California. He was a teacher for 62 years, 31 years in Woodland Hills, California, and a substitute teacher for 31 years in Hanalei, Kauai, and since 1994, in Weed.

He was a gentle man, with a wonderful, carefree sense of humor, who loved children. He enjoyed tennis, skiing and paddling his 1-man Hawaiian outrigger canoe on Lake Siskiyou. He paddled competitively in Hawaii for 10 years. He was a passionate piano player who would play for hours at a time, and performed locally in Mt Shasta and Dunsmuir. He loved to boogie-woogie.

He was a WWII veteran (Army Air Corps) and loved vintage planes. He graduated from USC and was an avid Trojan football fan. He is survived by his wife Kathryn, his four children, Jim, Diane (Daniells), Steven and Bob... Four grandchildren, Evan Daniells, Edward, Gilbert and Tycho Striegel, and one great-grandchild, Kaya Ngaire Smith-Daniells. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his name can be made to the music departments of Weed and Mount Shasta High Schools.
