Jezzelda DeBortoli Sterchi of Weed, California, passed away at her home on September 5, 2015 at the age of 97.
Jezzie was born on July 23, 1918 in McCloud, California to Victorio and Guiditta DeBortoli. The family eventually settled in Weed.
Jezzie was one of five children and life revolved around family and their Catholic faith. Growing up Jezzie enjoyed being involved in the church and its many functions and societies.
In 1941, she met the dashing Fred Sterchi while working at the Weed Theater. Unfortunately World War II broke out and Fred was shipped overseas. During these years Jezzie worked at the lumber mill and even represented “Betty the Riveter” in a local publication.
Once the war ended, they were married on January 26, 1946.
Jezzie’s life revolved around her family and supporting Fred’s logging company. She was very bright and was a self taught bookkeeper for the family business. She always claimed to be the oldest living bookkeeper, keeping the books for the family business until she was 86 years old.
Jezzie was a lifelong member of the Holy Family Catholic Church and was involved in many of the church functions.
Jezzie was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Fred Sterchi; her infant son, Lance; her parents, brothers and sisters.
Jezzie is survived by her children: Dan (and Teresa) Sterchi, Therese (and Robin) Styers, Kevin Sterchi and Judy Elliott; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 12 at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Mount Shasta, California. The Rosary begins at 9:30 a.m. and the funeral mass begins at 10 a.m.
