Patty Hood’s photograph titled “Viburnum Lace” garnered the highest number of points during judging and received the Best of Show award in the 2015 Botanical Gardens Photo Contest.

Winners were announced following Friday evening’s Gallery Show and Reception hosted by the Dunsmuir Botanical Gardens Board of Directors at the Siskiyou Arts Museum.

Hood received a $50 cash prize as the overall winner in the Adult division.

Zeke Buchert received the $50 Youth division prize for his “One With The River” photo.

Bob Baldo swept the Landscape/Scenery category and received the People’s Choice Award for “Moss Scape.”

Contest judges Nadine Aiello, Paul Melo and John Rogers awarded the overall prizes and first, second and third place awards in each of four categories: Plants, Landscape/Scenery, Wildlife and People in Nature.

Photographs were judged on how well they met the specific criteria: Relevance to Category, Composition, Photographic Quality, Technical Quality and General Appeal.

People in Nature – 1st, “Golden Butterfly” by Bob Baldo; 2nd, “My Backyard” by Linda Price; 3rd, “Step into the Garden” by Gretchen Barlow.

Plants – 1st, “Viburnum Lace” by Patty Hood; 2nd, “Morning Glow” by Dave Sjostedt; 3rd, “Pink Flower with Orange Ring” by Lindsey Culotta.

Wildlife – 1st, “Heron” by Lindsey Culotta; 2nd, “The Watcher” by Gretchen Barlow; 3rd, “Butterfly” by Carlee Punt.

Youth Division

Landscape/Scenery – 1st, “Spring Wall” by Zeke Buchert; 2nd “Fall Beauty” by Zeke Buchert.

People in Nature – 1st, “One With the River” by Zeke Buchert.

Plants – 1st, “Rhododendron Splendor” by Zeke Buchert; 2nd, “New Life” by Zeke Buchert.

The annual contest, according to a press release, was developed to highlight the beauty and activities that occur in the Dunsmuir Botanical Gardens throughout the year. Winning entries will be posted on the Botanical Gardens website and will be used in future Gardens publications with credit given to the photographers.
