A man was killed in the early morning hours on Thursday, Nov. 12 when he was run over by a semi tractor trailer on Interstate 5.

According to a California Highway Patrol press release, at approximately 3:15 a.m. the driver of a tractor trailer combination had pulled to the right shoulder of I-5 southbound north of Louie Road in order to rest.

The driver reported that he was startled by a pedestrian entering the cab of his vehicle, who talked with the driver before being told to exit.

The pedestrian exited, shut the door, walked to the front of the vehicle and into the traffic lanes, the release states.

The pedestrian then proceeded to kneel down in a lane and was immediately struck by a different tractor trailer combination. Investigators believe that the pedestrian died immediately.

The name of the pedestrian has been withheld pending notification of his next of kin.
