The Mount Shasta Police Department reported Sunday afternoon that a front desk employee at Best Western Tree House was hit twice with a gun while attempting to escape from two men who came in the front door early that morning and demanded money.
No money was taken, and a subsequent search of the area by Mount Shasta PD, Siskiyou County Sheriffs deputies and California Highway Patrol did not locate the suspects, according to a MSPD report.
Video from the motel shows two suspects, both described as about 5 foot, 11 inches, according to the report. “One wearing all black, and his face covered by what appeared to be a bandanna. The second suspect was wearing a dark gray jacket.”
The Police Department reported receiving a call from David Cutler of Weed at about 1 a.m. Sunday morning, Jan. 31. He told the police that two white male adults came in the front door to where he was working at the front desk and demanded money.
“Mr Cutler advised he had no access to the money, then backed away hoping to lock himself in the office,” according to the report.
Cutler told the police he was able to escape out the motel’s front door after the suspects were distracted by a safe in the office.
“After exiting the building, one suspect left, running south towards the Ray’s parking lot area,” according to MSPD. “The second suspect however stopped and again confronted Mr Cutler and proceeded to hit him twice with the gun, then escaped leaving the same way as the first suspect.”
A Code Red Alert was sent out to residents around the area where the suspects were last seen, according to the report.
