He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving from 1957 to 1961 and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons.

James was born in McCloud, California on October 27, 1935.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving from 1957 to 1961.

James worked as a saw filer for lumber mills in McCloud and Eugene, Oregon. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons.

Survivors include his wife, Annette Howarth of Mount Shasta; sons: Richard Howarth (and Tomoko) of San Jose, and Edward Howarth (and Cory) of Springfield, Oregon; daughter, Muriel Howarth-Terrell (and Doug) of Mount Shasta; brother, Ralph Howarth (and Agnes) of Hornbrook; sister, Nancy Smith of The Dalles, Oregon; and four grandchildren: Cameron, Jacob, Mitchell and Noah.

Private services will be held.
