Henry Gaines was the pastor of Mt. Shasta Baptist Church of Weed for 46 years. He was a veteran of the US Army World War II Army Corps of Engineers, a former Weed City Council member, a member of Kiwanis and Rotary clubs, the Ministers Alliance and Mental Health Board. He started the Veterans Memorial at the Weed cemeteries.
Pastor Henry John Gaines, a resident of Weed, California, passed away on June 26, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Mount Shasta. He was 92 years old.
Henry was born in Newellton, Louisiana on November 4, 1923. He moved to Siskiyou County in 1946.
Henry was the pastor of Mt. Shasta Baptist Church of Weed for 46 years. He was a veteran of the US Army World War II Army Corps of Engineers.
Henry was a member of Mt. Shasta Baptist Church, Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs, Ministers Alliance, the Mental Health Board, and former Weed City Council. He also started the Veterans Memorial at the Weed cemeteries.
Survivors include his son, Vernon Henderson of Stone Mountain, Georgia; daughters, Barbara Williams of Sacramento, Corita Henderson of Sacramento, Yvonne Henderson of Richmond, and Jackie Henderson of Sacramento; sister, Rosa Hart of Antioch; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Gaines.
A memorial service and visitation will be held on Saturday, July 9 at 10 a.m. at Mt. Shasta Baptist Church in Weed. Burial is at Mt. Shasta Memorial Park in Mount Shasta.
