It’s partially sunny on New Year’s Day morning 2017 in Mount Shasta, but the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory calling for snow and hazardous driving conditions from 10 p.m. this evening to 4 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Snow accumulations 6 to 11 inches with higher amounts above 5,000 feet elevation are in the forecast for the Mt. Shasta area, including the cities of Mount Shasta, Dunsmuir and McCloud.

The NWS is calling for snow falling down to the valley floors late Sunday evening through early Tuesday evening.

The following recommendations are included in the advisory:

• Slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination;

• Carry tire chains and be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities;

• See for latest road conditions;

• A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause travel difficulties.
